Tema7: ¿Es sostenible nuestro desarrollo?

7.1 ¿De qué factores depende la sostenibilidad?

Sustainability is a condition that is given to a series of economic, social and environmental management in a system. For sustainability need to meet threefactors:

1) No renewable resource should be used at a higher rate of its generation.

2) No contaminating material should be produced faster than it can be recycled, neutralized or absorbed by the environment.

3) No non-renewable resource should be exploited more rapidly than is necessary to substitute a renewable resource used in a sustainable manner.

The testing of sustainability can carry out a series of positive consequences suchas:

- Improved social justice and democracy.

- Overcoming cultural patterns, which relates the quality of life with the position of property and the indiscriminate use of resources.

-The adaptation to the characteristics and conditions of the ecosystems of different places.

7.2 ¿Qué efecto está produciendo nuestro modelo de desarrollo en el medio físico y en los organismos?

Energy has been fundamental to economic growth and human progress. Agustin Alonso Garrido, industrial and professional engineer in the energy sector, has developed some thoughts about analyzing the consequences of an unsustainable energy model, see a summary or outline of one of his latest works:The progressive development of our species throughout history has been based on increasing energy consumption. So much so that from our most distant ancestors, whose only energy consumption came from the food they ate, until the man in the current technological age, man has more than twenty times its own energy consumption. This means that in an average worldwide, it is as if everyone on the planet consumed only the 100 W that your body needs for daily living and, additionally, energy is lost twenty other bulbs equivalent to 100 W on for twenty-four hours days. The history of progress is, so far, the history of access to energy increasing. But it should not escape us a "small detail": We support the development of our civilization in the consumption of energy resources, for the most part, are limited...
The current model of development rests largely on the consumption of oil, natural gas and coal, which represent together more than 80% of primary energy supply worldwide, limited resources and therefore sooner or later will end. But perhaps not even be necessary to come to the depletion of these for the problem (the end of the model of civilization as we know it) is revealed in its true light, as the mere sensation of progressive shortages may lead to conflicts worldwide for the control of resources ...
The energy distribution is very uneven across countries, per capita consumption in some countries is more than 150 times that of the poor. Thus, as potentially beneficial effects that have access to energy on the level of development are not evenly impacting the benefit of all mankind. For example, a resident of Luxembourg daily consumes 60 times more energy than an inhabitant of Bangladesh. However, much of the energy resources are extracted from the South ...Therefore, the extension of the current development model is energetically impossible ...

7.3 ¿Cómo pueden corregirse los efectos negativos?

Applying sustainable development policies.

7.4 ¿Para qué actividades de las que realizamos cotidianamente necesitamos energía?

To be of sustainable development, give the following standards:

-Renewable resource should be used no faster than that of its generation.

-Contaminants which must be produced faster than it can be recycled, neutralizedor absorbed by the environment.

-No non-renewable resource should be exploited more rapidly than is necessary tosubstitute a renewable resource used in a sustainable manner.
